Emerging 'epicrim' field evaluates laws' effectiveness, consequences with data

UW law professor and former federal prosecutor Mary Fan is pursuing a Ph.D. in public health to better understand how to prevent social harms before the damage reaches the criminal justice system.

The training could help her better understand pressing issues such as gun violence, fatal use of force by police, and illicit drug use, she said.
