Congress' $1.1 billion funding package for Zika research is only about half of what the nation’s health experts think is needed to combat this new global health emergency, states an opinion piece authored by three faculty members at the University of Washington School of Medicine. 

"In their race to understand this mysterious virus and end the epidemic, Zika researchers face several major challenges that cannot be adequately addressed with the current level of funding," wrote Dr. Kristina Adams Waldorf, Michael Gale and Lakshmi Rajagopal.
