New tool to reduce patients' radiation exposure

A new technology platform will give UW Medical Center unparalleled knowledge of the radiation emitted by more than 90 instruments and the cumulative radiation to which patients have been exposed during radiological procedures. 

The hospital is wiring sensors to all of its radiation-emitting instruments and connecting them to a single server and database. The hospital will know not only each instruments' emission but also each patient's exposure. Patients will be able to access the information in their electronic medical records.
