Hospitals honored as antibiotic stewards

The Washington State Department of Health has named 18 hospitals to its Antimicrobial Stewardship Honor Roll.   Among them are Harborview Medical Center, Northwest  Hospital & Medical Center, and University of Washington Medical Center, all part of UW Medicine.

The recognition honors healthcare facilities that have antimicrobial programs in place to improve antibiotic use, reduce antibiotic resistance, and improve patient outcomes. These programs follow core elements from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, including leadership commitment, accountability, drug expertise, tracking, reporting and education.
